Stories and songs

Growing up watching Top of the Pops, I found my emotional education in singing along to pop songs. Music has always been a profound way for me to connect with my feelings and navigate life’s ups and downs. I believe that finding a song, story, or poem that resonates with you can be a powerful tool for exploring your emotions.

“The best therapists are at least partly poets.” Erica Jong

At Well Evolved, I encourage you to embrace creative expressions like journaling, poetry, and song writing to delve into your inner world. These activities can help you understand your feelings, foster self-awareness, and promote healing. I often write songs to get in touch with my emotions, and I’ve found it to be a therapeutic process that leads to greater self-understanding and well-being.

I am inspired by the work of Taylor Swift and admire her narrative coherence, the way she reflects on early family relationships and difficult experiences, and her consideration of systems of oppression like the patriarchy. This reflective and systemic approach is how I do therapy.

I often use attachment narrative therapy, which examines early caregiver relationships, dominant family stories, and the broader socio-economic context to understand client distress.

Together, we can explore your past, understand how it manifests in the present, and identify the changes you might like to make for a brighter future. Let’s embark on this creative journey together. Whether through music, writing, or any other form of artistic expression, we can discover what inspires and heals us.

As Erica Jong, cited in Irvin Yalom’s The Gift of Therapy, wisely says, “The best therapists are at least partly poets.” I believe poetry and creativity have a special place in therapy and can be incredibly beneficial for some people. Join me, and let’s explore the transformative power of creativity to help you navigate your emotions and find a path to healing and growth.
